Getting started chatbotsetupwizardai

Create your first chatbot

A chatbot in Mikabot is one website: one domain, one set of languages, one product catalog. The setup wizard has five steps and you can change every answer afterwards.

Have ready: your domain, your contact email, and one sentence about what your site sells.

Step 1: Site Information

  1. Enter your domain without http:// or https://
  2. Include www. only if your live site uses it. A domain can only be used by one chatbot.
  3. Select your Website Languages — English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, and Italian are available
  4. Describe what your website sells or does
  5. Click Test Access — Mikabot fetches the page to confirm it can read your site

You have to run Test Access before you can continue — the two buttons below it stay disabled until you do. It does not have to succeed: if Mikabot cannot reach your site, both buttons unlock anyway and you are told so.

Then choose how to fill in the rest:

  • Configure with AI — proposes a site name, bot name, contact details, description, expertise areas, and languages, and you edit them afterwards. When Test Access reached your site it reads the live page; when it did not, it works from publicly available information about your website instead, which is less accurate.
  • Configure Manually — you type it yourself.

Step 2: Basic Information

Complete the contact fields: Contact Email, Contact Page Url, and optionally a Chat URL for WhatsApp. These feed the {email}, {contact_url}, and {chat_url} placeholders used in handoff answers.

Step 3: AI Finetuning

Three fields shape how the bot sounds:

FieldWhat to write
Bot NameThe name shown in the chat header, e.g. Mika
AI Expertise AreasThe subjects the bot should be confident about, e.g. plant identification, care instructions
Default contextThe standing instruction sent with every conversation: tone, what to do when unsure, what never to promise

AI Expertise Areas is what the {ai_expertise} placeholder renders, and it tells the model which subjects it may be confident about. Keep it to areas where a wrong answer is not costly. Maximum 1,000 characters.

Step 4: AI Knowledgebase Structure

  1. Click Detect Site Structure — Mikabot scans your website for important pages
  2. Review the list and remove anything irrelevant
  3. Click Add Page Manually to add pages the scan missed, such as shipping, returns, or size guides

Each entry needs a Page Label and a Page URL. These pages give the bot somewhere to point visitors when a question is not about a product.

Step 5: AI Responses

This step is informational. Response templates are created after the chatbot exists, under Settings → AI smart responses.

Click Create your chatbot to finish.

New chatbots are created inactive, and the widget will not render until you switch Settings → General settings → Active on.

What to do next

  1. Settings → General settings — copy your Chatbot key, switch Active on, and if you sell online turn on Enable ecommerce
  2. Ecommerce → Product feeds — connect a product feed
  3. Settings → AI smart responses — click Initialize Defaults and edit the handoff answers
  4. Settings → Appearance — set your colours and avatar
  5. Open the Demo page and test the bot before installing the widget
  6. Settings → Site info → Install widget — put it on your site
